Stormwater Management System Maintenance, Repairs, and Construction

All stormwater management systems require maintenance. Appropriate operation and maintenance activities ensure that stormwater practices will continue to function properly and yield expected water quality and environmental benefits, protect public safety, meet legal standards, and protect communities’ and business’ financial investment.

Now is the time to consider developing an operation and maintenance (O&M) plan or manual if you don’t already have one. O&M plans may include basic elements such as:

  • Identification of the parties responsible for maintenance
  • Maintenance schedules
  • Inspection requirements
  • Frequency of inspections
  • Easements or covenants for maintenance
  • Description of basic maintenance activities like mulching, trimming of shrubs and trees, replanting, sediment and debris removal, and inlet/outlet cleaning.
  • Often leaking pipe joints, and or structures associated with a sites Stormwater Management System (I.E SWMS) can cause roadway, asphalt, and or sediment subsidence in various areas of a project which may lead to visible and physical effects. Check out some of our photos on this page for some examples of Inspections, and Repairs.
